New Japan Pro Wrestling announced today that there are no plans for TV broadcasts of their events in the United States on AXS TV for 2020.
NJPW started a partnership with AXS TV in late-2014 to air 13 episodes of their World Pro Wrestling show. The viewership was strong, so the decision was made to extend the partnership for several years, which also included broadcasting re-broadcasts of their Wrestle Kingdom shows.
The partnership with AXS TV was one of the main influences in the increased popularity of the company in the United States. NJPW has increased touring in the United States due to this and will continue to do so in 2020. For now, the only way to access NJPW content, including the 2020 Wrestle Kingdom show, will be on njpwworld.com.
It should be noted that in September, Anthem Sports and Entertainment, the parent company of Impact Wrestling, purchased a majority interest in AXS TV. With NJPW no longer appearing on the channel, the pro wrestling focus on the channel will shift to Impact Wrestling. Women of Wrestling also broadcasts on the channel.
