From the Desk of Mr. V #67
May 6, 2010
By: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com
My apologies in advance if my work is poor this week. My loyal students deserve the best in this teacher, but at 4pm I really considered to delay this week’s “Mr. V”. I took a nap after a grueling week of teaching third graders then woke up at around 5:45pm. I looked at my watch. 6:20pm EST. My deadline is at 12am EST Thursday May 6th. Will I be able to complete this lesson? Or will I force myself into wearing the Dunce Cap of Doom? Only time will tell this week.
Introduction (By: James Lacerenza)
He’s been educating so much lately that Dean Douglas wanted to learn how to job again, ladies and gentlemen, Mr. V., Anthony Valvo!
Thank you for the warm introduction James. However, in my world Shane (or Dean) Douglas would never job to anyone other than Bruno Sammartino (who still looks like he can whoop on somebody though he is in his 70s).
Oh and for the record my good friend Mr. Lacerenza is in the running for a wonderful charity for those who suffer from MD. I am still honored to have this guy as a weekly reader into my column and he does in fact need the students help. I happily obliged because it is for a noble cause.
For those that live in the United States, Pepsi is running a promotion called “Pepsi’s Refresh Everything”. Pepsi will be giving out grants for those that are voted near the top. Currently, Lacerenza’s cause is ranked 173rd, but he does need our help. Lacerenza wants a grant worth $50,000 to send 70 children to a camp for children suffering from muscle dystrophy at no cost to the parents.
I am not asking any of my students to donate cash or anything, just go on this site
http://www.refresheverything.com/mdcamp
And vote for this idea. If it is ranked high enough, you may (not sounding cliché here) put a smile on many a child’s face. I thank all of my readers and friends for doing this.
Welcome once again class to “From the Desk of Mr. V”. I am your resident teacher of WrestleView and I (and my students this week) will provide you with the good and bad of pro wrestling. Each week I will keep the predictions records up. Inside today will be a lecture on a few buzz worthy wrestling stories, detentions, Honor Rolls, and of course some Gold Stars (still sponsored by JR’s Family Bar-B-Q). Also, I would like some more takes on your thoughts from WrestleMania a few days ago. So students have a seat and grab a beverage of your choosing. School is in session for the 67th time and I am your teacher. Let’s get started with a little, yet somber tribute in “Quote of the Week”.
Quote of the Week
Since yesterday, I got at least five e-mails from different people on this issue. Last Tuesday, Longtime Detroit Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell passed away due to cancer at the age of 92.
Many talk about Jim Ross being the best commentator for professional wrestling. However, Harwell may have been the best commentator in professional baseball history. God Speed, Ernie.
Here is a clip from September 16, 2009 (his tribute in Comerica Park).
Again, a legendary voice…silent. RIP Ernie.
Teacher’s Lecture
1) TNA to Bubba the Hater…”show of hands for him to get fired”? (Boy, if Vince invaded TNA just to tell Bubba he was fired that would be great).
My Take: Look, I am not going to type words on this. All I will say is this:
Bubba The Love Sponge reminds me of a girlfriend that just got dumped. He is bitter and will find ways to go all “baritone” and rip on the product that he once worked for.
I am done. Honestly, he is neither worth the time nor the effort for me. They man is a jerk, enough said. If you want a solid rant, read Josh Boutwell’s TNA Recap. Outside of detentions I will never utter the name again. Why? Because he does not deserve it.
2) Big Smackdown spoiler regarding a title!
My Take: This is a Spoiler. So I if you don’t want to read this please scroll down.
Drew McIntyre LOSES the IC Belt!
I like it. I am sorry if I upset the fans of this prospect, but he is just that. A prospect. He has talent, but he still needs to get it together. Even though Smackdown lost star power in last week’s draft, Smackdown added better wrestlers in Christian, Kofi Kingston, Cody Rhodes, and MVP to their already superb talent like a Dolph Ziggler or a Rey Mysterio.
I see McIntyre nothing more than a good mid-card guy at the moment. His lack of experience was exposed at WrestleMania. The man is only in his early twenties and can get it together; there is still plenty of time.
Or maybe the WWE is building him up for something more. I mean Teddy Long did kayfabe “fire” him during this week’s tapings and the world is buzzing as to why? I for one read on other sites that it is a Wellness Violation. Well as of Cinco de Mayo (Happy May 5th to those who drank a fifth), nothing was reported on WWE. I think this was a good way to save face for McIntyre and not drop the IC Title to anyone. If this is part of a storyline, I applaud the WWE for doing this.
As for the future of the IC belt, well that is a spoiler that I won’t expose in my column for those that actually do want to know. But there will be a NEW Intercontinental Champion.
3) TNA moves back to Thursday nights beginning May 13.
My Take: TNA made the smart move, and I am sure that 99.9% of the WrestleView audience agrees.
Let’s face it, TNA’s ratings were that of GPA in Science back in the 7th Grade (I am not afraid that I got an overall 0.7). Now look at me, I teach science because I knew my flaws and I worked hard to get where I am at. TNA learned this the hard way. Overall, it was a puzzling move to begin with and they can go back to getting the 1.0-1.3 range that they had. Heck, even have a “Live” show on Thursdays every now and then. Make Thursdays “TNA Night” instead of a lackluster attempt at challenging the WWE.
Still, TNA and Spike did the right move. Too bad it took this long to figure that out.
4) Wrestleview’s VIP celebrates one year!
My Take: I want to whole-heartedly say congratulations to Adam, Hunter, Paul, and Tom here. They along with countless others worked hard to find original programming on the radio for all to share. Though it comes at a price of $4.99/month they are doing their best in making it worth every penny.
I would also like to thank them for allowing me to be a part of the radio for professional wrestling. The first time I did “Friday Fishbowl” with Adam, I was extremely nervous. However a few months later and after being on as a guest for “Fishbowl”, Sandstorm’s Radio Show, and Pro Wrestling Rewind I am honored to co-host a weekly radio program with David Stephens (one of two men that inspired me to be a columnist on this site) called The Teacher’s Lounge. I appreciate all the e-mail we received from the dozens (hopefully hundreds soon) students who e-mail how well we are doing.
Well right now, We have great shows on this site, including WrestleView Radio, The Best D@mn Tom Van Stone Show (a fellow Knight of Columbus I may add), 3R Radio, Bootlegs and B-Sides, Friday Fishbowl, and other shows that I can’t even remember.
So, congrats WrestleView and I look forward to the future.
5) Finlay (according to some sources) is deemed “too old to wrestle” by Vince McMahon.
My Take: However, Finlay is still an agent for the company. When I told my wife that Finlay currently is 52 years old, she could not believe it. Seriously, he is 52 years old and last year he wrestled like a man 20 years younger. Still, it was not enough for McMahon to keep him on the roster. However, Finlay is a road agent within the WWE so the man has a job and I am happy to hear that.
Who wants to make a bet that if Finlay went to TNA he would be the Global Champion almost instantly? Anyone?
Eh, what the heck. If this was in fact a true story I will raise my Corona Light (It is May 5th you know) and say TO FINLAY!
Why Dropkick Murphys? Well, would you rather want this or Miley Cyrus?
**Mr. V looks at his watch…7:26pm! Let’s get to Detentions**
Detentions
There were many that deserved a Detention, but some that that deserved the Dunce cap even more.
I actually had a brief chat with my Teacher’s Lounge co-host in who should get the Dunce award. It was unanimous.
So, let’s begin…
Praxis and the ETS Series – I still have a four letter word to describe these tests.
Zayr Peygumbari – The WWE “fan” who called into the Headquarters and screamed over 20 times that he was going to bomb the Headquarters over Mickie James’ release. He later complained that he “could not go to wrestling shows anymore”. Um…why don’t you thank you lucky stars that the judge did not throw you in jail with some guys who would make you tap out the hard way.
Drew McIntyre – for being “fired” by Teddy Long. Again, never should have been an Intercontinental Champion.
NXT “Challenges” – This previous week was hysterical with an obstacle course that featured monkey bars, drinks (soft drinks, not diet), a ladder, juggling, and spinning a bat. There was other stuff, but I don’t want to type it up. But do you know what this reminded me of? Another YouTube clip! Double Dare, show them a REAL obstacle course.
Of course, without flags being caught, a free trip to Space Camp, and Marc Summers. Hey WWE, maybe hire Marc Summers as your NXT host. Keep Matt behind the announcers’ table.
The two Philadelphia Phillies fans – For running onto the field and looking like fools. Eh, at least they have passion. I live in Pittsburgh and we have not seen competitive baseball in over a decade.
Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler – For ripping on Matt Striker (while he was not on at the time) during Superstars this week.
Jerry Lawler – For addressing “Spongebob Squarepants” on TV…
…Michael Cole – For giggling like an 8-year old school girl after that joke.
Bubba the Love Sponge – After this, no more references. He is going to get the C.B./WWE treatment. Too bad he won’t get fired from his radio deal too. I hear he has a strong fan base, but I am a Howard Stern fan anyway.
Ink Inc. – Worst tag team name…ever!
WWE Creative (by: Evan O’Brien) – for making Smackdown look weak after the draft.
The EU (by: Evan O’Brien) – for bailing out Greece.
TNA Creative (by: Evan O’Brien) – Not making the Knockouts as important as they once were.
THE DUNCE CAP OF DOOM goes to…George Huguely!
**NON WRESTLING RANT HERE!! Please skip if you do not want to read this. **
There was Jim Cornette’s little letter saying that he wanted to kill Russo, but that is nothing compared what this guy did last weekend.
I may be jumping the gun early on this (like I usually do when I read about murder cases), but this one made me want to personally cram a yardstick up someone’s @$$ (but I am sure some prisonmates are doing this to him anyway).
George Huguely is a former University of Virginia Men’s Lacrosse player who is now in prison after last weekend. He is charged in murdering his ex-girlfriend who was a Women’s Lacrosse Player for Virginia. It was a top story on ESPN and other major news outlets.
Apparently, this moron was upset that the woman broke up with him. So what does he do? He destroyed a bright future for a young lady who was probably weeks from graduating and now he is stinking up the joint in a prison somewhere. And for what? Being dumped? How pathetic is this? You are in a college that is hard to get into, play for the best lacrosse team in college, and then THIS?!?!?!?! Sorry to swear here, but what the hell is wrong with this world?
So, both teams are apparently going to be competing in the NCAA Tournament shortly. Both teams are highly ranked. Both teams decided to play on. For the Virginia Women’s Lacrosse team, your team is in my prayers and I hope you show the country that you all can overcome this tragic adversity.
To the men’s lacrosse team and its coach, I suggest that you cancel the season. That’s right, cancel. I know it is one man, but the team truly should be punished here. The NCAA should ban them in all honesty. They ban players getting paid (which is good), ban titles or victories for academic wrongdoings (another good one), and many more. But the NCAA will allow a team to continue though a player (though dismissed already) is charged and booked for 1st degree murder? I am sorry, but that is f**cked up!
Past Dunces include: Kate Gosselin, Bubba the Love Sponge (twice), Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Ben Roethlisberger, and Michael Cole (twice).
Mr. V’s Honor Roll for the week of April 26 – May 1, 2010
This Week, I will not be able to provide thoughts on each match. I just hope that if you watched all the programming you would agree that these were the best three matches of the week. I am sorry to disappoint.

4/26 – Graded WWE Monday Night Raw and TNA Impact matches (I will move TNA on 5/13)

Distinguished Honors – Jack Swagger vs. John Morrison, Monday Night Raw, April 26.
How it ended: The match ended when Swagger hit the Gutwretch Powerbomb on Morrison. Overall, it was a great contest with many transitions and featured a good blend of maneuvers.
Grade: B+ (leaned towards an A-).
High Honors – Batista vs. Sheamus vs. Randy Orton, Monday Night Raw, April 26.

Mister V’s Gold Star Segment (Sponsored By: JR’s Family Bar-B-Q!!)
Though Jim Ross is not guaranteed a commentator job in the WWE, you can guarantee that his BBQ Sauce and Chipotle Ketchup is great! Got an extra 20 bucks? Well, for $19.88 you can get three bottles of JR’s Original Sauce which would be perfect for Memorial Day or that last Mother’s Day gift. So order some already!
I am going to be stingy with my Gold Stars this week, as I am on a tight deadline here. Here are the ones that I will present a Gold Star to this week.
Justin Gabriel – For a juggling performance that was the best since this guy…
Well, here is where I was going to post a David Stephens juggling clip, but I fear that I would get slapped by my radio co-host. Maybe I will put this on Weird Web Stories for ESPN’s SportsNation. I think he would get huge props.
Jay Lethal – For his spot-on Ric Flair impression.
Teddy Long – He fired Drew McIntyre and stripped him of his title. I hope this does not violate his probation.
Jose Marrero – He has helped me a TON recently in my writing and for my radio show. Thank you a ton for your feedback.
Anthony DeBlasi and Kevin Castle – The two other radio host have me laughing in tear with the way the ripped on the name-I-refuse-to-mention. Plus, they too and their fans are supporters of my column. So a Gold Star to all of you!
Marc-Andre Fluery – Though based by the bandwagon Pittsburgh Penguins fans, he silenced those imbeciles by shutting out the Montreal Canadiens in Game 3. LET’S GO PENS!!!! WOOOOOO!
Students that e-mailed me your homework – Thank you for the assignment.
TNA – For firing some dead weight.
The Porpoise – This creature for three straight weeks (which was broken) avoided being slapped by ROH announcer Mike Hogewood.
Batista – He earned one for his supreme work as a heel in the WWE.
James Lacerenza – For his continued efforts to help children have a dream of going to camp. Again, please vote for his cause and Pepsi may give him a grant to send dozens of children to MD Summer Camp at ZERO cost to their families.
Ricky Langston – He gave me a few good/bad ideas that I will share in a moment.
Good Ideas and Bad Ideas (by: the WrestleView Students)
From Ricky Langston
Good Idea: Trying to start a new “Monday night war” with WWE to revitalize ratings.
Bad Idea: Trying to start a new “Monday night war” with WWE, and crawling back to your Original Time-slot A few months later, after abysmal ratings.
Good idea: Bringing in Legends to bring Old and New viewers alike to watch your product
Bad idea: Bringing in Legends who were in their Prime 20 years ago that can’t make a match with a mop look good.
Good idea: Firing Bubba The Love Sponge.
Bad Idea: Not doing it sooner.
If you have any good ideas or bad ideas, send them over to mistervwv@hotmail.com.
WrestleView Students Homework
The Question
1) Out of all the WWE 2010 Draft Picks (and Supplemental as well), which superstars do you believe won and lost? It also can include superstars and divas that were not drafted to a different brand. (Due 5/5/10)
Here were some students takes (thank goodness for copy and paste, right?). Again, I thank the few that took some valuable time in their lives to complete this homework assignment, as well as the one due next week.
From fellow Substitute Teacher C.R.:
Winners
Jack Swagger- He’s now the top dog on WWE’s OTHER show, and by the looks of the talent on that show, he doesn’t have to worry that much about a main eventer demanding a title run.
CM Punk- He is the dastardly villain on Smackdown now. Swagger has the cocky champion gimmick going. Punk can continue to revel in his Straight Edge Messiah gimmick in all of its glory. In a way, he has two roads. One, he can wait for Swagger to fail which will lead to Punk’s rise to main event status. Secondly, he can keep his status as a top heel which will lead to eventual challengers to the world championship having programs first with CM Punk.
Kofi Kingston- If ever a person received a push to the stars only to be buried on TV to the point where he hardly was seen again, it was Kofi Kingston. On Smackdown, the only thing stopping Kofi Kingston now is Kofi Kingston. He can go as far as he wants to on this brand, and I believe that at least an Intercontinental Championship program is in the cards.
Christian- This is another guy that was lost in the shuffle on their current brand. This is particularly sad since Christian had a great run on ECW as ECW Champion. But on Raw, he was again off and on TV and never really got off the ground in terms of having any sort of program. Now, he’s got a chance on Smackdown to really break through that glass ceiling in the WWE and grab a main event spot.
Cody Rhodes- Very similar to Kofi Kingston. He was main eventing PPVs as part of Legacy, but since Mania, he disappeared. Hopefully, Rhodes can develop on Smackdown into a solid mid-card talent.
MVP- Again, like Kofi Kingston, he’s off Raw and back on TV. He needs to step it up because I believe this will be his final shot at the spotlight.
Losers
Goldust- While I happen to believe Goldust is one of the greatest gimmicks in WWE history (and a pretty damn good wrestler as well), this has all of the makings of a “future endeavored” type of situation. If they allow Goldust to be the Goldust that can cut jokes, he may have a future. But otherwise, I think he’ll get buried to the point of dismissal in the ring.
Chris Masters- While he is off and on TV thanks to the guest host stuff, I think Smackdown will be his next stop towards his eventual walking papers as well. Last time Masters was fired, I believe he was a member of the Smackdown roster. So, this would sort of be irony if it happens again.
Zack Ryder, Finlay, Carlito, Evan Bourne, Gail Kim- These are all people that could have used a roster change and instead are stuck on their perspective brands. I think that most of these wrestlers are Future Endeavored waiting to happen.
Eh, Whatever
Chris Jericho- Jericho has been on and off Raw so many times that I think that it doesn’t really matter anymore to him what brand he is on. He’s got his spot, he’s not going anywhere, and he’ll continue to be “the best in the world at what he does.”
Edge- Again, Edge has done Raw and Smackdown back and forth several times, albeit his last time on the Raw roster was in 2007. Edge doesn’t really have any new programs to work with on the Raw roster except maybe a long feud against Triple H.
The Big Show- Again, like Edge and Jericho, he’s yo-yo’d several times between the blue and red brands that a trip back now makes little difference. It’s just a different night with the same few faces over and over again.
From Suzanne Abshire
Pick #1 (Smackdown) Kelly Kelly
Thoughts: I like Kelly but Mickie for Kelly isn’t much of a trade off.
Grade: C
Pick #2 (Smackdown) The Big Show
Thoughts: I figured they would split ShowMiz up and put one of them on SmackDown! Although I was surprised that it wasn’t the Miz they moved.
Grade: B-
Pick #3: (Raw) John Morrison
Thoughts: I was disappointed here because I thought he would feud with Jack Swagger and eventually become the new World Heavyweight Champion and I am not sure that will happen on RAW with the WWE Championship.
Grade: B+.
Pick #4 (Raw) R-Truth
Thoughts: Obviously he will be in a feud with Ted Jr but I hope when that is done they do the feud everyone wanted to see when he came back to WWE against John Cena.
Grade: B-.
Pick #5 (Raw) Edge
Thoughts: I was so glad with Christian going to SmackDown! that they made this move. I think Edge is a better fit as a heel on RAW so good job all around.
Grade: A-.
Pick #6 (Smackdown) Kofi Kingston
Thoughts: This could be a great move but it could also mean the end of the road for Kofi. I see this going either way for him. I hope it goes well for him.
Grade: B+.
Pick #7 (Smackdown) Christian
Thoughts: This was a great move and the best place for him. I think this will be his breakout year. He will be able to show on SmackDown! what he did in TNA,
Grade: A-.
Pick #8 (Raw) Chris Jericho
Thoughts: I think he will do well no matter what show he is on but I think it would have been better if he stayed right where he was.
Grade: B+.
WWE always stacks the deck for RAW and with SmackDown! leaving MyNetwork TV it isn’t surprising that the bigger name talent is on RAW but I think SmackDown! still has alot of talented wrestlers. I wish the WWE would have unified the Woman’s Championships and kept all of the women on RAW and both of the tag teams on SmackDown!.
Carlito (Raw) He hasn’t been cut yet and his brother and cousin now both work for WWE so I think he will be fine. I don’t believe he would be a mentor on NXT if they were even thinking of letting him go.
The Dude Busters (Smackdown) I like these guys, hate the tag team name. I don’t know what they will do without some new teams in WWE,
Finlay (Smackdown) I guess with Horny on SmackDown now he will wrestle more now.
Evan Bourne (Raw) I think he could be a solid midcarder.
Matt Hardy (Smackdown) Hopefully this will be a breakout year for him.
Zack Ryder (Raw) He is a entertaining midcarder.
Mark Henry (Raw) I just hope he won’t be teaming with MVP any more.
Santino Marella will continue to be comic relief in WWE.
Dolph Ziggler (Smackdown) Should be an Intercontinental Champion by December.
Drew McIntyre (Smackdown) I would have moved him to RAW.
This week’s Homework Assignment
1) (From Mr. V #64) Which show in professional wrestling do you believe is the best one so far. Summarize your reasoning as to why you believe it is the best show on television right now. The choices are Raw, Impact, NXT, Smackdown, Superstars, FCW, and Ring of Honor on HDNet. (Due 5/13/10)
And….TIME! 9:00pm! Looks like I can wait until 6:00pm and still give you all a column. Well, Have a good night everyone.
Dismissal
Well, that does it for me this week. I thank you all for reading and I hope you enjoyed this column as much as I typed it out. I do get a lot of e-mails and may not reply in a timely fashion, but I will do my best to give you a quicker reply.
Now, students you are allowed to leave the classroom. Please push in your chairs, line up straight, and exit to the closest door around you. Until my next Ring of Honor on HDNet recap (which should hopefully be up soon), you are all……DISMISSED!!!!

THE TEACHER’S LOUNGE IS NOW PLAYING ON SATURDAYS!!
Future Guest: Matt O’Brien from WrestleView.com
Already on the archives we interviewed Jose Marrero (Wrestling Rumblings), Crystal Mai from Diva-Dirt.com, and The YouTube Sensation who had choice words to CM Punk.
David Stephens (That’s A Wrap and Raw recapper) and I have a weekly Internet show only on the WrestleView Radio Network. It does cost a bit of money, but we will do our best to make it worth it. If you want to be a part of the Lounge for our “E-mails” section, you may drop us a line at teacherslounge@hotmail.com.
For $4.99 you can listen to the likes of Hunter Golden, Adam Martin, Tom Van Stone, Doug Lackey, and so much more!! I will be honest to say that we do offer the best value in paid content. So for a couple bucks less than a bag of Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee, you can get all of the above.
Finally to end this column, I would like to thank those who read all of my work. My ROH Recaps are still among the most viewed and my Examiner page is among the top 5 among all examiners in the Pittsburgh Area. This is the most motivated I have been in writing in some time, so thanks to all of you.
If not for the students, there would be no Mr. V. Thanks for reading my column.
