According to a new report by PWInsider, current Ring of Honor World Champion Jay Lethal has signed a new contract with the company, just a few weeks before his current deal was set to expire. The report also states that ROH is currently in a “seek and sign” mode working on bringing in new talents to the company.
Lethal began with ROH in 2002, then left the company for TNA/Impact Wrestling in 2005. He then returned to ROH in June 2011 at the Best in the World Pay Per View event, defeating Mike Bennett (current WWE star Mike Kanellis).
He is currently in his second run as ROH World Champion making his reign the second longest in company history, just behind former ROH Champion and current WWE star Samoa Joe who still holds the record for the longest reign at 645 days.
Lethal’s first ROH World Championship win came in 2015 at the Best in the World PPV where he defeated Jay Briscoe. His second title began after defeating Dalton Castle, Cody Rhodes and Matt Taven at the ROH TV taping in Fairfax, VA back on June 30.
Jay Lethal is scheduled to defend the ROH World Championship against Cody Rhodes at the company’s Final Battle Pay Per View, which is to be held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on December 14.
