During a recent episode of his “Dinner with The King” podcast, Jerry “The King” Lawler was joined by Jim Cornette to discuss this Friday’s Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia and the controversy of no female WWE talent being involved on the card.
Cornette suggested that the contracted female talent in WWE receive a “heck of a payoff” for not being allowed to be booked on the card for an event that WWE is expected to be paid very well for (they’ve yet to disclose the monetary figures publicly).
When Cornette made the comment, Lawler added that he thinks “that’s exactly what’s happening” regarding the female talent not flying to Saudi Arabia and not being booked for the event that will stream live to the WWE Network on Friday afternoon.
Just yesterday, Paul “Triple H” Levesque told the Independent in the UK that he understood the criticism WWE was getting by not featuring female talent on the card.
“I understand that people are questioning it, but you have to understand that every culture is different and just because you don’t agree with a certain aspect of it, it doesn’t mean it’s not a relevant culture. While women are not competing in the event, we have had discussions about that and hope that, in the next few years they will be. That is a significant cultural shift in Saudi Arabia.”
Lawler will be part of the Greatest Royal Rumble Kickoff Show panel along with Jim Ross and Booker T that will air at 11:00 a.m. ET (10:00 a.m. CT).
