WWE Smackdown
November 19, 2010
Richmond, VA
Report by: Mike Tedesco of Wrestleview.com

“Yes, sir, we promised you a great main event…” The WWE video leads us into the show.

A video highlights Edge’s abduction of Paul Bearer. It shows Kane looking for him backstage and beating up stagehands. Edge then cost Kane a match against Big Show by distracting him with Bearer all tied up.

The Smackdown video plays and we’re brought into the arena with some fireworks. Todd Grisham, Matt Striker, and Michael Cole welcome us to the show. Tonight we’ll see a Captain vs. Captain match, as Rey Mysterio will take on Alberto Del Rio.

Ricardo Rodriguez is in the ring and he introduces Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio drives into the arena in another beautiful Rolls Royce. Del Rio gets in the ring and introduces himself. Del Rio says finally, after twenty-four years, Survivor Series will be great because he’ll be the superstar of the show. It’ll also be great because he’s going to lead Team Del Rio to a victory, destroying Rey Mysterio and his little team. Mysterio isn’t the only one who likes to be destroyed. Other people like to learn the hard way and who better than him to teach them a lesson. They then show footage of Del Rio beating Sgt. Slaughter on Raw and then locking him up in the Cross Arm Breaker. MVP ran down to make the save. Del Rio says he took our little hero and action figure Sgt. Slaughter and made him cry. When it comes to heroes it’s only him.

MVP’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring dressed to compete. MVP asks if Del Rio can hear the crowd. MVP says he knows Del Rio doesn’t have a firm grasp on the English language but that’s the WWE Universe telling him to punch Del Rio in the mouth. MVP says the WWE Universe, like himself, are tired of him disrespecting the ring. We’ve seen this act before. Del Rio says there is no one like him out there. MVP says guys like Del Rio are a dime a dozen. It’s the legends that paved the way for him to open his big mouth. MVP says the legends built the universe they live in today.

Del Rio says the only reason why MVP holds the legends in such high regard is because he’ll never be one of them. Del Rio says he’s already a legend. MVP says if he’s such a legend then they should get Survivor Series started with him giving Del Rio a legendary beat down. Del Rio says maybe that sounds like a great idea to MVP and the crowd so tonight there will be a fight… except it won’t be him and MVP. It’ll be Del Rio vs. the little Chihuahua Rey Mysterio. Del Rio says even if he wasn’t in a match with Rey Mysterio that MVP wouldn’t be able to handle him. Del Rio says if MVP wants to fight then he’ll bring him someone from Team Del Rio. He’s bringing him “The Chosen One” Drew McIntyre.

Luckily Drew McIntyre was dressed to compete and right by the entrance for this impromptu match.

MVP vs. Drew McIntyre

MVP blocks a punch and unleashes some on McIntyre. McIntyre comes back with punches of his own before running in to a belly-to-belly overhead suplex. McIntyre rolls out of the ring and MVP follows. McIntyre sends him into the barricade. McIntyre charges but MVP flapjacks him on the barricade.

-Commercial Break-

We come back from the break to see MVP front suplex McIntyre onto the top rope. McIntyre rolls out of the ring and hides under the ring. MVP goes to pull him out but McIntyre pulls him into the steel structure that supports the ring. McIntyre sends him into ring steps before rolling him into the ring for a near fall. McIntyre uses the ropes to stretch his injured arm out a bit and gets another two count. McIntyre applies a key lock but MVP gets out of it with kicks. McIntyre quickly takes MVP down with a shoulder block and continues working on the arm. McIntyre sends him to the corner but runs into a boot.

MVP punches and hits a big boot for a near fall. MVP sends him into the corner. McIntyre tries to charge out but MVP catches him with a T-Bone Suplex. MVP gets the crowd into it and hits the BALLIN Elbow Drop. MVP goes to send him into the ropes but McIntyre holds on. McIntyre kicks him in the arm and hits an over the knee neckbreaker for a near fall. McIntyre kicks him in the arm and viciously punches away. McIntyre charges into a big boot. MVP then finishes him off with a big running kick for the win.

Edge is somewhere talking about how Kane is maniacal and more dangerous then he’s ever been. Edge says he’s sure Kane would be pulling his hair out if he had any. Edge then gets closer to the tied up Paul Bearer and rips the tape off his mouth. Bearer screams for Kane and Edge puts the tape back on. Edge says that would help if Kane knew where they were. No one knows where they are right now but maybe they’ll see Kane later tonight. Edge says they’ve had a good time this week with the monster truck rally and the beach volleyball game. Now it’s time for a drag race. Edge gets in a wheelchair and makes wild noises as he races. Bearer, all tied up, goes nowhere. Edge wonders if Bearer didn’t like that game. Edge has a better idea and smiles maniacally at Bearer.

-Commercial Break-

Teddy Long is in his office with Chavo Guerrero. Chavo says he should be in the ring when Kane bursts in. Chavo leaves while Kane huffs and puffs, getting closer to Long. Kane forces him to sit down and asks where Paul Bearer is. Long says he doesn’t know and Kane thinks he’s lying. Kane destroys the office as Long runs out. Couches get flipped, lamps get destroyed, but somehow the Bragging Rights Trophy on a little table in the middle of the room doesn’t get touched.

Chris Masters vs. Jack Swagger

Charles Robinson, my favorite referee ever, is the official for this match. They lock up and Swagger takes him down with a front face lock. Swagger backs up and Masters comes back with a punch and a shoulder block. Masters sends him to the corner and goes for a powerslam but Swagger slides off and takes him down. Swagger hits a Vader Bomb for a near fall. Swagger applies an abdominal stretch. Master powers out and hits a hip toss. Masters hits a Samoan Drop and punches away. Swagger reverses a whip but Master comes back with a big shoulder block. Master dives off the second rope with another shoulder block for a near fall.

Masters tries to pull him out of the corner but Swagger kicks him in the knee. Masters applies the Masterlock out of nowhere but Swagger leaps over to the apron. That was impressive. Swagger pulls him to the apron and bounces his knee off the ring post. Master hobbles around the ring as Swagger hits a chop block. Swagger applies the ankle lock and gets the submission victory.

Winner by Submission: Jack Swagger

Edge is somewhere with Paul Bearer again saying he’s going to need to be on top of his game against Kane this Sunday. Edge says Kane is massive so he’ll have to stick moves and be agile. Edge says Bearer can help him with that by playing a game of dodge ball. Edge backs up and throws the ball near Bearer’s head. Edge throws again and misses Bearer’s face again. Edge takes the ball again and tells Bearer to stick a move and nails him in the gut with the ball. Edge dribbles the ball off Bearer’s head a few times before backing up and nailing him in the skull with a nice throw. Edge says Bearer is using his head. This was hilarious.

-Commercial Break-

The announcers go over what Edge just did to Paul Bearer, including showing a slow motion replay of the ball bouncing off his head.

Kaval is in the ring ready to fight. Dolph Ziggler makes his way to the ring with Vickie Guerrero. Ziggler says after this past Monday all his problems are behind him. He’s still undefeated as Intercontinental Champion, he’s got the hottest girlfriend in the world, and he’s on a role. At Old School Raw he dominated Sexual Chocolate and now he’ll beat Kaval. Ziggler says Kaval’s chances of beating him are somewhere around zero. He’s Dolph Ziggler and Kaval is nobody.

Kaval vs. Dolph Ziggler w/ Vickie Guerrero

This is the final time I’ll be writing this. The Goose, Mr. V’s favorite referee, is the official for this match. The bell sounds and Ziggler quickly beats Kaval down in the corner. Ziggler pounds away and chokes him with his boot. Ziggler goes to send him into the ring post but Kaval reverses it on Ziggler. Ziggler kicks Kaval to gain some time to recover. Ziggler sends him into the ropes and Kaval hits a running elbow and a clothesline. Ziggler comes back with a whip but Kaval counters with a nice handspring back elbow for a two count. Kaval misses a splash in the corner but counters the Zig-Zag by hanging on to the rope. Kaval gets a roll up but Ziggler reverses it. Kaval then counters another roll up with a cradle pin for the win!

Winner by Pinfall: Kaval
Match Rating: * 1/4

Kaval stands on the announcer’s table and cheers after winning his first match since NXT. Kaval grabs a microphone and says this no one just beat Ziggler. Not too long ago he won a show named NXT and a championship match at a PPV of his choice. Kaval has made a decision. This Sunday at Survivor Series it’ll be Kaval vs. Dolph Ziggler and he’ll beat him again to become the NEW Intercontinental Champion!

Tonight we’ll see Rey Mysterio take on Alberto Del Rio. Coming up next will be a Survivor Series showcase match as “Dashing” Cody Rhodes will take on Kofi Kingston.

-Commercial Break-

Edge is working on his cardio by running around with Paul Bearer. Edge stops and says he needs to eat. While Bearer could miss a meal or eight Edge needs to eat. Edge goes to get the pizza he ordered and fixes one of the wheels that are breaking on the wheelchair before leaving.

They lock up and Rhodes puts himself through the ropes. Rhodes forearms Kingston in the face and throws him into the ropes. Rhodes lowers his head and eats a kick. Kingston then slaps him and Rhodes throws a fit. He rolls out of the ring, kicks the steps, and rips the cover off the announcer’s table. Rhodes grabs his ring jacket and uses the mirror on the back of it to check his face. That’s great.

Kingston signals for his finisher but misses Trouble in Paradise. Rhodes misses the Beautiful Disaster and Kingston rolls him up for a near fall. Rhodes grabs him by the hair and tights and hits Cross Rhodes for the win!

Winner by Pinfall: “Dashing” Cody Rhodes
Match Rating: **

Kane is livid backstage. Kane says Paul Bearer is the only person who has ever understood him. Bearer has always been there for him. Now that he’s gone it feels like a part of him has been ripped away. The camera zooms out to see he’s talking to a terrified Rosa Mendes. Bearer is Kane’s father and Edge abducted him. Now he’s playing games with him and torturing him. Edge has no idea what torture and pain are. When Kane finds him he’ll teach him what those things are. Kane is going to rip his guts out and shove them down his throat, and that’s only the beginning.

Rey Mysterio will take on Alberto Del Rio tonight in a Captain vs. Captain match.

-Commercial Break-

The Smack of the Night was Lay-Cool making jokes about Mae Young at the Old School Raw this past Monday. They didn’t show Mae Young calling them bitches and sluts though.

Mike’s Thoughts

That was a much better Smackdown. It still isn’t what I’ve come to expect from Smackdown but it was way better than the past two weeks have been.

I really enjoyed the segments with Edge and Paul Bearer tonight. While the angle hasn’t been a homerun by any stretch at least they provided us with some solid comedy tonight. That was hilarious that Edge was wheeling around Paul Bearer while he had pizza on top of his head and fragments of a brownie sticking out of his ear. WWE comedy isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but tonight I thought they did a pretty good job. The finish to the vignettes with Edge surprising Kane was well done also. I’m still not totally sold on the match but it’s time for the World Title to change hands.

I enjoyed the Survivor Series showcase matches for the most part tonight. Rhodes and Kingston really shined in their match and I enjoyed the MVP and McIntyre match as well. The rest of them were a little too quick for my tastes but then again it’s only a two-hour show. I could have done without the battle royal match but I guess they had to do all they could to sell the one traditional Survivor Series match. It should be a good one this Sunday.

I’m happy to see Kaval pick up his first win since being moved to the main roster. I’m looking forward to his match against Dolph Ziggler this Sunday but I’m not confident on Kaval’s chances. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him lose his championship opportunity. Still it should be a good showing as Ziggler has shown he can hang in there with the good ones.

Final Rating: ** 1/2
