Opening video package highlights the top matches, narrated by Paul Heyman. Commentary welcomes us to the show, we go to the opening match. Nigel McGuinness is off commentary tonight due to an illness.
NXT Tag Team Championships: The Undisputed ERA (Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly) (c’s) vs. The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) w/Paul Ellering
AOP attack the champions early. Rezar shows his power over O’Reilly. O’Reilly goes for a Triangle and shots from the mount, but Rezar shoos him off. Fish comes in and hits some strikes, but Rezar powers him into his corner. Akam comes in and works over Fish. Fish and O’Reilly try to leave, but AOP stops them. Fish sent into the steps. Akam wheelbarrow faceplants Fish onto the barricade. AOP with another double team, but Akam appears to have hurt his leg in the process. Fish chopblocks Akam’s leg, then spears Rezar through the ropes and to the outside. Undisputed ERA begins to take control. Akam slans down O’Reilly, but Fish goes back to the leg. O’Reilly locks Akam in a half crab, but Akam kicks him off. O’Reilly with a kneebar applied, AKam gets to the ropes. Undisputed ERA with more double-teaming, working over the injured leg of Akam. Fish taunts Rezar, allowing Akam to hit a back body drop. Rezar off the hot tag, begins to mount a comeback. Spinebuster and right hands to O’Reilly, then hits a Samoan Drop/Fallaway Slam combo on Undisputed ERA! O’Reilly comes back with a knee strike and Undisputed ERA with more double-teams. Fish with an Exploder to Rezar for 2. Rezar stops Total Elimination and turns O’Reilly inside out with a clothesline. AOP goes for the Last Chapter, but Fish stops it with a flying knee. O’Reilly with a heel hook on Akam while Fish with a choke on Rezar. Rezar breaks it up by slamming Fish down on top of O’Reilly. Dueling chants from Philadelphia. O’Reilly goes back to the leg with strikes, but Akam won’t go down. Akam them with a Leg Capture Suplex, followed by knees in the corner. Akam clotheslines Fish off the apron, then hits O’Reilly with a Buckle Bomb. Rezar with a big boot to Fish. AOP goes for the Super Collider, but O’Reilly ranas Akam into Rezar, sending him outside. Fish then rolls up Akam to retain the titles.
Winners and STILL NXT Tag Team Champions: The Undisputed ERA by pinfall (Roll-Up)
#NXTTakeOver: Helluva opener between AOP and Undisputed ERA. Fish and O'Reilly showed why they are still a top tag team. Good way to send-off AOP if that will be the case.

The Velveteen Dream vs. “The Knockout Artist” Kassius Ohno

Velveteen Dream is wearing boxing shorts for his ring attire. Crowd counts along as the bell sounds as Dream guaranteed a 1-minute knockout. Dream DRILLS Ohno about 30 seconds in and thinks he knocked him out. Ohno back up and DRILLS Dream with a big-time elbow, knocking out his mouthpiece, followed by two big boots, sending Dream outside. Back in, Dream comes back with a spinebuster. Dream with a series of strike combos as he takes control. Suplex gets 2. Dream taunts Ohno with some hip swiveling, then hits a kneedrop. Armbar applied, then more strike combos by Dream. Dream with boots, but they don’t faze Ohno. Double sledge gets 2. Ohno gets out of the cartwheel DVD, then counters a suplex with the Crash Landing. They trade strikes, then Ohno makes a come back. Running back senton, followed by the Cyclone Kill for a close 2. Ohno calls for the KO elbow, but Dream counters with a backslide for 2. Superkick by Dream, followed by the Hammerlock Flatliner-style DDT for a close 2. Dream goes up top, but Ohno with a boot, followed by a big elbow. Ohno goes for the flying KO elbow, but Dream catches him and hits the cartwheel DVD for a close 2. Ohno comes back with the Ripcord Rolling Elbow for a close 2. Ohno goes for the Hangman’s Elbow, but Dream counters with another cartwheel DVD. Dream heads up top and hits the Purple Rainmaker for the win.
Winner: The Velveteen Dream by pinfall (The Purple Rainmaker)
#NXTTakeOver: Still a good match between Dream and Ohno, but they got lost towards the end after some slip-ups. Philadelphia did love themselves some Velveteen Dream, he put in another great TakeOver outing.

NXT Women’s Championship: Ember Moon (c) vs. “The Queen of Spades” Shayna Baszler
Baszler comes out, being shown from backstage heading to the ring, ala UFC. Pre-match intros for this one. Baszler messes with Ember early. Ember avoids a PK, then gets out of the Kirifuda Clutch and hits a bunch of one-legged dropkicks, sending Baszler utside. Ember then wipes out Baszler with a Lope Suicida. Baszler comes back with aknee strikes and a big chest kick for 2. Baszler stands on Ember’s fingers and stomps down on the elbow, the same thing she did to break Dakota Kai’s arm recently on NXT TV. Baszler continues the attack on Ember’s arm. Baszler pulls on the arm and wrist of Ember, followed by a big kick. Baszler kicks at Ember disrespectfully, but Ember comes back with a slap. Ember comes back with kicks, followed by a springboard crossbody for 2. Ember heads up top for the Eclipse and hits it, but hurts her arm more in the process! Doctors come out to check on Ember, but she doesn’t want the match to be stopped. Baszler grabs the arm and locks in a cross armbreaker, but Ember blocks it by gripping her fingers and getting to the ropes. Baszler goes back to the cross armbreaker, but Ember continues to block the pressure. Baszler continues to try and break the grip, but Ember rolls her up to counter and retain the title! WOW!
Winner and STILL NXT Women’s Champion: EMber Moon by pinfall (Roll-Up)
#NXTTakeOver: Great psychology and story told in Baszler vs. Ember. Ember had some great selling in the arm and Baszler loses nothing in defeat as she was a killer throughout and just got caught. Great stuff. -JN

Referees and doctors help Ember to the back, but Baszler attacks her and chokes her out in the Kirafuda Clutch! Shayna poses on the ramp with the four fingers sign of the MMA Four Horsewomen as Ember is left unconscious, with her injured arm hanging behind her back.

Extreme Rules: Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black
They brawl early. Black does his sitting pose in the ring, causing Cole to go outside and grab a chair. Black avoids a chairshot and sends Cole outside. Black sits down in the chair and waits on Cole. Black tosses the chair aside and sends Cole outside. Black drills Cole with a forearm. Cole fights back, then grabs more chairs and a trash can. Black sent into the barricade, then Cole grabs a kendo stick, but Black has one of his own. Black tosses it aside and dares Cole. Black avoids shots and hits some strikes, but Cole drills Black in the ribs with the kendo stick when he goes for a springboard moonsault press. Another kendo stick shot by Cole, then he chokes Black with it while trash talking him. Kendo stick-assisted backstabber by Cole for 2. Philadelphia wants tables and Cole grabs one, setting it up outside. Cole goes to superplex Black through the table outside, but Black blocks it and slams Cole down onto the trash can! Black with a Bicycle Knee for 2. Black grabs a table and places it against the other table. Black then grabs a ladder, but Cole baseball slides it into Black. Cole sets up the ladder in the corner, but Blacks blocks a suplex. Cole with an enziguri, then hits punches in the corner, but does too much taunting, allowing Black to send Cole into the ladder from the Electric Chair position. We see that Cole got cut open somewhere on his hand as there is blood on him, the doctors attending to him. Black places Cole’s head in a chair, but Cole nails him with the chair in the ribs. Cole goes for the Ushigoroshi onto the chair, but can’t. Cole avoids kicks by Black, but not a double stomp. Black again places Cole’s head on the chair and heads up top, but Cole tosses the chair to Black, superkicks the chair into Black and sends Black off the turnbuckles and through the two tables outside! Cole gets a close 2. Cole sets up a chair platform with the chair backs against each other. Black, though, comes back with the Ushigoroshi, sending Cole’s back across the two chairs! Cole grabs a chiar, but Black with a sliding knee sending it back into his face, but Undisputed ERA come out to break up the pin. Undisputed ERA hits Black with Total Elimination outside, then drag him around ringside and set up the announce table. O’Reilly sets up Black on the timekeeper’s table, but SAnitY come out to make the save! SAnitY and Undisputed ERA brawl to the back while Killain Dain wipes out everyone with a tope suicida! Cole now with Black on the timekeeper’s table, but Black fights back and drives Cole through the announce table with Meteora! Cole comes back wth a superkick, then grabs a chair and goes to hit Black, but Black drills him with Black Mass for the win! WOW!
Winner: Aleister Black by pinfall (Black Mass)
#NXTTakeOver: Fantastic Extreme Rules Match between Cole and Black, although I question the outcome. Cole needed the win more than Black did. However, both looked sensational in this. – JN

Main Event for the NXT Championship: “El Idolo” Andrade “Cien” Almas (c) w/Zelina Vega vs. “The Whole Shebang” Johnny Gargano
Almas comes out with his old La Sombra mask and a mariachi band playing him out before his music began. Pre-match intros for this one. Chain wrestling early until we have a stalemate. We see Gargano’s wife, new NXT signee Candice LeRae, sitting at ringside. They both go for their finishers until we have another stalemate. Gargano with a running raa and a dropkick, then hits an armdrag into an armbar. Almas comes back with with a big overhand chop. Gargano with a 2nd Rope Rana, then clothslines Almas outside. Gargano avoids an Apron Moonsault then hits an Apron Superkick, but Almas hiptosses Gargano off the apron and to the outside! Almas takes control, working over Gargano’s back. Almas with a Dragon Sleeper in the ropes, then hits a dropkick to the back for 2. Chinlock applied. Gargano comes back with the Gotcha! Kick, but Almas ties him up in the Tree of Woe. Gargano avoids the Ghetto Stomp and Belly-to-Belly Suplexes Almas into the turnbuckles! Gargano mounts a comeback, hitting an enziguri and a 2nd Rope Flatliner for 2. Gargano hits the Slingshot Spear for a close 2. Running corner enziguri by Gargano, but Almas counters a headscissors with a faceplant for 2. Almas hits the 2nd Chance Moonsault for a close 2. They trade strikes, Almas with a spinning back elbow for 2. Gargano with a superkick for 2. Both hit clotheslines at the same time until both go down. Almas with a knee strike from the corner, then goes for the La Sombra from the ropes, but Gargano slips out and hits the Cheeky Nandos superkick, ala Will Ospreay. Almas gets out of a Sunset Bomb and hits the Running Basement Meteora . Almas misses a second, but but avoids the Gargano Slingshot Spear and hits Destino from out of the corner for a close 2. They battle on the apron until Gargano hits the Slingshot DDT onto the apron! Back in, Gargano gets a close 2. Gargano tries for the Garga-No Escape, but Almas blocks it. Almas goes for another Running Basement Meteora, but Gargano counters with a clothesline, folowed by the Lawndart. Vega distracts Gargano, but Gargano counters La Sombra with an inside cradle for a close 2. Gargano then hits the old #DIY basement superkick for a close 2. They fight on the turnbuckles until Almas hits the Ghetto Stomp onto the apron! Almas drives Gargano into the LED board by the apron repeatedly, then hits another Running Basement Meteora, but Gargano kicks out! Almas and Vega can’t believe it! Almas slaps Gargano repeatedly, but Gargano fights back. Almas with another big chop, but Gargano with a superkick and a reverse rana. La Mistica by Gargano into the Garga-No Escape! Almas tries to get out, but Gargano keeps the hold applied. Vega grabs Almas’ hand, but the ref catches her, allowing Almas to rake the eyes. Gargano blocks La Sombra and wipes out Almas with a tope suicida! Vega then hits a rana, sending Gargano off the steps! Back in, Almas hits La Sombra, but Gargano kicks out AGAIN! Vega is in shock! Loud chants for Gargano. Vega goes after Gagrano, but Candice LeRae hops the rail and attacks Vega, sending her into the barricade! They brawl to the back. Gargano hits the Slingshot DDT on Almas, but he kicks out! Garga-No Escape re-applied, but Almas gets to the ropes! They go back onto the apron, but Almas drives Gargano into the ringpost and sandwiches him against the post with the Meteora! They head back up top, with Almas hitting the Draping La Sombra to retain the title! Unbelievable!
Winner and STILL NXT Champion: Andrade “Cien” Almas by pinfall (Draping La Sombra)
Almas and Vega celebrate his title retention after as Candice checks on her husband. Crowd gives Gargano a standing ovation as he leaves as Candice helps him to the back. All of a sudden, the returning Tommaso Ciampa nails Gargano from behind with one of his crutches. Ciampa stares down Gargano and limps off as Candice checks on her husband on the stage as the show closes.
#NXTTakeOver: Unbeliveable main event between Almas and Gargano. Almas cemented himself as a good champion, Vega is a great manager, Gargano was amazing as a babyface and a nice surprise with Candice and the returning Ciampa in the post-match. – JN

Overall, #NXTTakeOver: Philadelphia was another consistently good TakeOver event, with great stories told throughout and amazing performances from Shayna Baszler, Johnny Gargano and Velveteen Dream. Thumbs up. – JN
