WWE Raw kicks off with two pictures, one in memory of Nikolai Volkoff and the other of Brian Christopher.
Highlights of last Monday’s WWE Raw match involving Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley airs with Roman becoming the number 1 contender to the WWE Universal title.
Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman promo
Roman Reigns’ music hits and he makes his way down to the ring. Roman gets on the mic and gives a shout out to Miami for bringing the noise. He also gives a shout out to Bobby Lashley saying he respects him. And that’s a lot more than he can say for Brock Lesnar since he has zero respect for him. Roman says Lesnar never shows up but he has time to show up for the UFC and get in Daniel Cormier’s face. Reigns since Lesnar will not get in his yard, get in his face and run his mouth.
Out comes Paul Heyman with his patented quote about being Brock Lesnar’s advocate. Heyman says Lesnar has authorized him to give him his most profound congratulations for his victory last week against Bobby Lashley. However, Heyman says for him, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting the same result. Which is why Roman should be in a patted cell and not in the main event for the Universal title at Summerslam.
Heyman says Reigns can go on and on about spearing Brock Lesnar through the cage and him being the uncrowned champion. But Heyman makes a spoiler saying at Summerslam Brock Lesnar will put down the big dog and go on to UFC and become a two sport champion.
Reigns tells Heyman to shut up. They don’t care about anything he has to say, they are here to say Brock Lesnar. Heyman says his client Brock Lesnar is here right now in Miami. And he is sitting in his luxurious locker room and he will come out when he feels like it. And if and only if he feels like coming out.
Paul tells Roman not to worry because at Summerslam, Brock Lesnar will… Roman interrupts him. Roman says what? Will Lesnar actually show up to Summerslam? Roman says if he shows up to Summerslam, he will send him back to the UFC. But he’s not going back as the beast, he’s going back as Roman Reigns’ bitch.
Backstage we see Seth Rollins getting ready for his match tonight against Drew McIntyre.
We see Ronda Rousey talking to Natalya and she will be in Natalya’s corner when she takes on Alicia Fox tonight.

I like that we didn't see Lesnar right away to start the show. Roman came off looking sharp on the mic tonight and Heyman is arguably the best in the business when it comes to talking. Not a bad segment to start off #Raw.

Hopefully that's the end of Corbin vs. Balor but we'll probably get a Summerlam match. The one tonight just dragged on for too long. I simply have not been able to get behind this feud. #Raw

Mojo vs. Roode? This has the potential to be as bad as Sami vs. Lashley. Minus the horrible segments. #Raw
— Wrestleview.com (@wrestleview) July 31, 2018
Full disclosure, I really thought Akam would get the win against Apollo out there. AOP should be feuding for the tag team titles (I'd love to see them with Paul Heyman), I feel like they're wasting them. But this is what they are going with for now. #Raw

Not a bad #Raw as the build up to Summerslam continues. Maybe some new feuds being started. That second hour dragged on but I felt that third one fly by. For the first time in a long time, the Universal title felt like the priority on the show.
