The show starts off with Jeremy Borash in Jeff Jarrett’s office with him. Jarrett says that he hasn’t been in the ring for over 2 years and Kurt Angle wrestles all over the world on a regular basis so he better be ready. JB then asks him if he’s having second thoughts about the match, but Jeff says no and that its become personal between he and Kurt. He says win, lose, or draw that he’s going to leave it all in the ring at Bound for Glory. JB then noticed Kurt Angle’s Gold medal on Jeff’s desk and asks if its Kurt’s. Jeff says that it is and he has big plans for it tonight.
TNA runs a video package hyping up BFG IV and then we get the usual Impact intro.
Christian Cage’s music hits and the “Instant Classic” is on his way to the ring. To this point Christian (along with AJ Styles and Booker T.) is unscheduled for BFG. Christian says that all he he’s been hearing lately is how he should choice a side between the young guys and the veterans. He says that he’s “The Champ” and he’ll pick a side when he wants to. He then says that maybe he doesn’t want to pick or side or need to pick a side. Booker’s music hits and out comes the Houston Royalty with his wife. Booker says that he didn’t come out for trouble, he came to reason with Christian and persuade him to join the veterans. He says that they should be on the same page and says that he took AJ Styles to a new level and made him what he is. Booker says that now all AJ wants to do his move Christian out of the spotlight and steal it. This brings out AJ Styles looking very unhappy with Booker’s comments. AJ says that he thought it was Christian that was the master manipulator but now its Christian who’s getting manipulated. AJ then asks Booker if its really about respect or the spotlight. AJ mocks Booker’s accent and then Booker tells Christian that AJ doesn’t respect them. Booker tells AJ he doesn’t know who he’s messing with, but then AJ answers by telling Booker that he’s a washed up has been. Booker acts like AJ was talking about Christian, manipulating him, and now Jim Cornette comes out and interrupts. Cornette says that none of these guys have been backing up their words so tonight Booker T. is going one-on-one with AJ Styles! Cornette then says that Christian will be the Special Referee so we’ll know what side he’s really on tonight.
Earlier today, Sting is in the rafters with JB. Sting says that enough has been said and that BFG will be the biggest match of his life. He says that’s its not just about the glory, the applause, or the Title, he says his reputation is on the line. Sting says that he isn’t just representing the veterans but he represents everyone that’s been disrespected. He says that him losing is not an option.
No DQ Match
Kip James w/The Beautiful People vs. “War Machine” Rhino
I still refuse to call Kip, “Cute Kip” like TNA is calling him now. The Beautiful People are certainly cute to say the least though. Rhino jump starts the match by attacking Kip on the outside and then throws him into a guardrail. Rhino beats Kip all around ringside and then pulls a table out from under the ring. Kip fights back with punches but Rhino is right back with punches of his own. Rhino attempts to whip Kip into the guard rail, but Kip reverses it. Rhino slams Kip’s head into the ring steps and rolls him in the ring, but Kip stomps his head. Kip with a snapmare takeover and then a chinlock. Rhino fights to his feet but Kip stops with a punch to the ribs and then The Beautiful People choke him on the ropes. Kip hits a knee to Rhino’s head and then locks in a modified crossface. Rhino fights to his feet again but Kip takes him down by the hair. Kip tells Velvet & Angelina to give him the brown paper bag. Kip attempts to put it over Rhino’s face but gets punched in his face. Rhino with a flying clothesline and a back elbow, followed by a shoulder block in the corner. Rhino then hits a big clothesline that turns Kip inside-out. Rhino goes to the outside and puts the table in the ring. He sets it up in the corner but Kip gets a few big shots on Rhino. Kip attempts to whip Rhino into to the table but Rhino reverses it into a Belly-to-Belly Suplex. Rhino sets up for The Gore but Kip is able to move and Rhino stops himself from going into the table. Angelina Love grabs Rhino’s ankle and when he reaches down to grab her Velvet Sky sprays the hairspray in his eyes. This allows Kip to hit The Gore (Spear) himself on Rhino and get the pinfall!
Winner: Kip James via pinfall (Spear through a table)
After the match they beat down Rhino until Taylor Wilde and Rhaka Khan, with chairs, come down to make the save.
Spike TV is having a Steven Seagal marathon this weekend people! You have to set the Tivo for that! I guess that’s the random thought of the night.
Back from commercials JB runs up to Kurt and snitches out Jeff about having Kurt’s gold medals. Kurt is pissed and says that Jeff is just trying to sucker him in.
TNA X-Division Title #1 Contenders Match
Fatal 4 Way
“Maple Leaf Muscle” Petey Williams vs. “Guru” Sonjay Dutt w/So Cal Val vs. “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal vs. Consequences Creed
The winner of this match faces Sheik Abdul Bashir for the X-Division Title at BFG. Even more interesting Don West notes that this is the first time that Sonjay and Jay Lethal have been in the ring together since the Ladder Match. Creed is becoming one of my favorite wrestlers right now. There’s just something about the guy. Lethal goes right for Sonjay while Creed goes for Petey. Sonjay slides to the outside and kisses Val, but then Lethal comes flying through the ropes with a Suicide Dive! Back in the ring Creed leapfrogs Petey, but gets nailed with an Atomic Drop as he lands. Petey whips Creed into the ropes but Creed gets a boot up and then hits the Rolling Clothesline for a two count. Lethal comes back in with a Missile Dropkick onto Creed and then Sonjay attacks him from behind. Sonjay attempts to whip Lethal into the ropes but Lethal reverses it and then hits his hiptoss into a handspring basement dropkick combination. Petey with a shoulder block through the ropes on Lethal and then slingshots into the ring with a Face Breaker. Sonjay drags Lethal to the outside while Creed punches away at Petey in the ring. Creed hits his splits into a right hand and then Sonjay hits an axe handle to the back of the head. Sonjay pummels Creed on the mat until Creed fights back with big punches. Petey then cuts him off with a body shot and then a backbreaker followed by a Spinning Neckbreaker. Petey holds Creed and Sonjay punches Creed in the ribs. Petey and Sonjay celebrate until Sonjay kicks Petey in the ribs. Petey then throws Sonjay to the outside and droptoe holds Creed onto the middle rope Rey Mysterio style. Petey then charges at Creed but Lethal cuts him off with a clothesline. Lethal attempts to whip Petey into the ropes but Williams reverses it, and Lethal handsprings off the ropes over a Petey Williams clothesline attempt. Lethal with an Enziguri for a two count and then Creed hits a big Spinning Fishermans Buster on Lethal for a two count. Williams hits a Tilt-A-Whirl Russian Legsweep, but Sonjay attacks him from behind. Sonjay with an Asai Moonsault on Creed for a two count. Sonjay attempts to whip Petey into the ropes but Petey reverses it. Petey charges at Sonjay and he moves out of the way by climbing through the ropes and then hits a kick to Petey’s head in one fluid motion. It’s hard to describe. Sonjay springboards off the top but Petey moves and sets up for the Canadian Destroyer! Creed quickly comes in and grabs Sonjay to stop Petey from hitting it. Petey sunset flips Creed but Creed rolls through and hits a big Superkick on Dutt when Petey ducked. Petey goes for the Canadian Destroyer on Creed but Lethal stops him and hits the Lethal Combination! Lethal goes to pin Petey but Creed stops him and hits a TKO on Lethal on top of Petey! Sonjay goes for a Diamond Cutter on Creed but Creed reverses it into a backslide for the pin! Man, that is what the X-Division is all about. So, Creed will get another shot at the X-Division Title this Sunday!
Winner & NEW X-Division #1 Contender: Consequences Creed via pinfall (backslide)
In the back Lauren is with the X-Division Champion: Sheik Abdul Bashir. Bashir says that he cannot think of a better opponent for the “Middle Eastern Nightmare” at TNA’s premiere PPV than a man that drapes himself with the red, white, and blue of America. Bashir rants about paying the cost to be a free American and says that with his pain comes bloodshed. Bashir says that he will torture Creed at BFG!
Karen’s Angle w/ Mick Foley
Mick says that he’s thrilled about being in TNA and that he was very nervous last week. Mick says that TNA seems to be like a place where a difference can be made. Foley says that he’s flattered to be part of BFG. Foley says that it bothers Kurt that Jeff Jarrett thinks that Mick is the greatest acquisition in TNA’s history. He says that his advice to Jeff Jarrett is to be focused at BFG and not let his emotions get the best of him. It was a short but sweet segment
Don West and Mike Tenay run down the card for BFG IV.
In the back JB is with Rhino. Rhino pushes JB away and says that at BFG Kip James is just an appetizer and for dinner he’s going to set up tables in each corner and play a game of “Gore the Whore!” I’m not sure what that means but okay.
Back from commercial Steve “Mongo” McMichael, who will referee the Monsters Ball, is hyping up Monsters Ball.
Non-Title Match
Beer Money Inc. w/Jacqueline vs. “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan & “The Monster” Abyss
James Storm is so awesome, this week he is coming to the ring with a mini-keg on a big chain around his neck. Before the match Abyss rips out some hair and gives it to a kid at ringside. Team 3D makes their way down the ring with a steel pipe and chair as they will do guest commentary. Robert Roode and Matt Morgan will start the match off. They lockup in the center of the ring and Morgan throws Roode off like he’s nothing. Morgan then throws Roode into the corner by his throat, but Roode kicks him in the gut and chops him in the corner. Roode attempts to whip Morgan into the ropes but Morgan reverses it. Morgan goes for a clothesline but Roode ducks and goes for a Cross Body Block, but Morgan catches him in midair and hits a Fall Away Slam. Storm then goes for a Flying Cross Body Block off the top but Morgan catches him too! Jacky then distracts the referee allowing Roode to chop block Morgan. Roode and Storm double team Morgan. Storm hits an elbow drop on Morgan’s knee and then stomps on it in the corner. Storm then distracts the ref while Roode slams Morgan’s knee into the ring post. Storm tags in Roode and then they treat Morgan like a wish bone. Roode continues to work on Morgan’s knee and goes for a Figure Four, but Morgan kicks him into the corner. Morgan fights back with punches and charges at Roode, but Roode grabs his leg and rolls through into a Half Boston Crab! Morgan is able to claw his way to his corner and tag in Abyss, but Storm had the referee distracted so he didn’t see it! Great tag team wrestling. Beer Money drags Morgan back to their corner and continue to work on that knee. Roode tags Storm back in and they go for a double suplex, but Morgan blocks I and hits a big double clothesline! Morgan is able to tag Abyss in and he cleans house. Abyss hits a Big Splash in both corners on Beer Money and then a Butt Splash on Roode. Abyss hits the Shock Therapy on Storm for a two count as Roode breaks it up. As Abyss hit that move Brother Ray on commentary starting hinting at a Flaming Table for BFG, but Morgan flies off the top with a big Flying Cross Body Block onto Beer Money! Morgan then hits a Big Boot on Roode and Storm hits an Enziguri on Morgan. Abyss goes for a Chokeslam on Storm but Storm hits a big back elbow to stop it. Storm then attempts to hit Abyss with a beer bottle but Abyss ducks and Morgan kicks Storm in the face. Abyss then hits the Black Hole Slam for the pin!
Winners: Matt Morgan & Abyss via pinfall (Black Hole Slam)
In the back Lauren is with L.A.X. earlier today. Homicide says that he doesn’t give a damn about Team 3D or Morgan & Abyss, all they want is Beer Money. He says at BFG they’re “gonna elevate our hate.” Homicide swears to hurt Beer Money and make them bleed.
Back from commercials Mick Foley’s generic music hits and the Hardcore Legend makes his way to the ring. Foley cracks a joke about his horrible sports coat and says that since Brother Ray has “bastardized” the flannel shirt he has to come up with a new wardrobe. Foley thanks the fans for making his TNA debut something he will never forget, and that last week will always hold a special place in his heart. Foley says that all the pieces are in place for BFG to be a special night. Foley guarantees that all allies of Jeff or Kurt will be dealt with by him if they attempt to interfere. Foley then introduces Jeff and Kurt. Mick asks Jeff has any last words before BFG. Jeff says that TNA made a huge mistake in hiring Kurt Angle and that he’ll have to live with that. Jeff says that he didn’t want things to go down like this, but now realizes that it had to. Jeff then hands Kurt Angle his gold medal and says “See you in Chicago.” Mick then asks Kurt if he has any last words and he simply shakes his head. Mick asks them to shake hands and they do, but Kurt grabs the mic and thanks Jeff for giving him back his gold medal. Kurt then says when he goes home to tell his little girls he apologizes because “daddies not coming home after Bound for Glory.” Man, Kurt continues to throw them darts at Jeff Jarrett.
Back from commercial Tenay announces that just signed Rhino, ODB, & Rhaka Khan will meet Kip James & The Beautiful People in a Bimbo Brawl at BFG!
In the back JB is with Booker T. and Sharmell. Booker says that Christian will be on his side tonight because Christian is a champion just like Booker. He says that AJ Styles is nothing more than a farmhand, and he’s only good for two things: feeding the chickens and picking up cow poop. I’m serious Booker really said that. Booker says that AJ is jealous of he and Christian and tonight AJ will be in the ring with a living legend. JB once again asks Booker about the briefcase, but Booker won’t reveal what’s in it until the time is right. He then says that the time is approaching.
Back from commercial TNA shows another edition of TNA Rough Cut with Taylor Wilde and Roxxi talking about the Knockouts Title Three Way this Sunday.
Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed vs. Taylor Wilde & Roxxi
Kong starts the match off quick with a clothesline attempt on Roxxi but she ducks and chops Kong. Raisha comes in and attacks Roxxi from behind. Kong and Raisha whip Roxxi into the ropes and go for a double clothesline, but she ducks and attempts a Flying Cross Body. Kong and Raisha catch Roxxi in midair but Taylor comes off the top rope with a Missile Dropkick to the back of Roxxi allowing Roxxi to get a two count. Taylor then hits several leg kicks on Kong, but Raisha kicks Taylor from the outside and Kong knocks Taylor down. Kong then wheel barrel slams Raisha onto Taylor for a two count. Raisha tags in Kong and she kicks Taylor to the face. Kong throws Taylor all the way across the ring by her hair! Taylor fights back with body shots and goes to hit Raisha, but Raisha ducks and grabs ahold of her. Kong then attempts to punch Taylor, but Taylor ducks and Kong hits Raisha. This allows Taylor to tag in Roxxi who chops and and punches Kong and Raisha. Roxxi then hits a big Yakuza Kick to Kong sending her to the corner. Roxxi then comes off the top with Flying Knee Strike for a two count until Raisha interferes. Roxxi chops away at Raisha until Kong hits her from behind. Taylor comes in with forearms to Kong but Kong pushes her back and charges, but Taylor holds the top rope down sending Kong to the floor! Roxxi and Raisha trade forearms until Taylor comes over and hits Raisha with one of her own. Taylor goes for a kick but Raisha catches her leg. Taylor goes for an Enziguri but Raisha ducks and Taylor hits Roxxi! Raisha then hits Taylor from behind. Taylor fights back but Kong trips her from the outside and pulls her out. Back in the ring Raisha hits a scoop slam on Roxxi and then attempts a Moonsault off the top, but Roxxi moves! Main Event
Special Referee: “Instant Classic” Christian Cage
Booker T. w/Sharmell vs. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles
Booker and AJ lock up in the middle of the ring and then push each other into the corner where Christian tells them to break apart. Booker tries to cheap shot AJ but Christian stops him allowing AJ to roll Booker up for a two count. Booker argues with Christian about that. They lockup again and AJ is able to get a side headlock, but Booker fights out of it and reveres it into a hammerlock into a side headlock of his own. AJ then pushes Booker into the ropes and leapfrogs over him, AJ then drops down and Booker hurdles over him, and Booker hits a big spinning heel kick. Booker then attempts to whip AJ intot he ropes but AJ reveres it and then hits a beautiful dropkick for only a one count. AJ puts Booker in a sleeper as we go to commercial. Christian raises Booker’s hand first and then raises AJ after thinking about it.
Winner: AJ Styles via pinfall
Booker attempts to attack Christian but Christian clotheslines Booker to the outside! Christian then took out AJ! Cornette is pissed because they didn’t settle anything and says that at BFG it will be a Three Way Dance between Christian, Booker, & AJ! Another huge match for BFG!
Back from commercial TNA shows a video package hyping the Sting vs. Samoa Joe match.
TNA World Title Contract Signing
Jim Cornette is in the ring with a podium and he introduces Sting and Joe. Cornette says that there is a new clause in the match that both Sting and Joe asked for: win, lose, or draw there will be no rematch! Sting signs the contract and then Joe signs it. Sting says that it didn’t have to be this way, but it is what it is and that he’ll see Joe at BFG. Joe tells Sting to do what he needs to do and he’ll do what he needs to do. Joe says that the reason he hasn’t slapped Sting yet is because that Kevin Nash taught him above all to be professional. Joe says that Sting is wrong about him, he does respect Sting. Joe then offers his hand for a handshake and Sting shakes it, but Joe nails a huge headbutt on Sting! Sting snaps and goes after Joe and we have a fullout brawl! Security runs out and Sting breaks free and starts wailing on Joe! Joe looks psycho as he tries to claw his way through security to get at Sting. Awesome ending segment. Final Thoughts
I thought that tonight going into the show that this could be kind of an off week after the strong shows that TNA has had the past month or so going into the PPV, but this week may have been even better than the last few weeks. The promos weren't as good this week but the actual match quality was very good. It was a very strong show heading into the biggest PPV of the year with several more matches added to the stacked card. Anyway, onto the actual show breakdown.
The opening segment with Christian, AJ, and Booker was decent and furthered the veterans/young lions angle as well as setting up the Main Event.
The No DQ match was as good as possible considering Kip James was in it. This feud just doesnt really do anything for me, other than looking at Velvet Sky and Angelina Love obviously.
The X-Division Fatal 4 Way was really great and is exactly what the X-Division is supposed to be: nonstop action. All 4 guys seemed to have great chemistry and it looks like the Sonjay Dutt/Jay Lethal saga isn't quite over with yet. Bashir needs to step up in the ring Sunday and prove that he can hang with the great X-Division wrestlers. Hopefully Creed will finally get his Title win, though.
This week's Karen Angle was okay I guess and very short as usual, but he really didn't say much about anything.
The Tag Match was another really great match, old school tag team wrestling. That Flying Cross Body that Matt Morgan did off the top rope was insane. They had good chemistry too and it gets me even more hyped up for Monster's Ball this weekend. Hopefully Abyss snaps out of it and goes nuts with the weapons.
The Foley/Angle/Jarrett segment was decent but it made it even more personal as Jeff was being the sportsman and even gave Kurt his medal back, but Kurt still threw that lowblow out there. Their match should be really good.
The Knockouts tag was great and the Three Way shouldn't disappoint at BFG.
The Main Event was another really great match between Booker and AJ, and I loved the controversial finish. I'm def. looking forward to seeing this Three Way Dance between 3 of the best wrestlers in the world.
The final segment was about what you would expect from a contract signing but the way they ended it was perfect. Joe and Sting shaking hands and then Joe doing exactly what Sting has been pissed about, sneak attacking Sting with a vicious headbutt and then the brawl is on. Perfect way to end things, and this new stipulation to the match where no matter what there will be no rematch is very interesting. Puts a nice twist to things and now I'm really not sure who will come out of this match with the title as before I was pretty sure that Joe would. Hopefully Sting puts on one more classic, regardless.
Great show and don't forget that if your not able to catch Bound for Glory IV on PPV this Sunday on PPV to make sure you come by Wrestleview.com for the best Live PPV coverage on the internet by Adam Martin!
