LIVE From: Green Bay, Wisconsin
Report by: Peter H. of WrestleView.com
Welcome to the last Raw before the first major PPV of the new year, the Royal Rumble. Raw tonight is from the home of cheese, terrible beer (compared to Canadian beer) and the packers, yep we are in Green Bay.
Onto our first match of the night
RVD & Booker T vs. Christian & Matt Hardy V.1
Special stipulations for this match, apparently the winning team will advance to a mini rumble of sorts. The winner of the mini rumble will get the #30 spot. Also revealed is that the Coach is the interim GM for tonight’s Raw. (I think JR mentioned something about it being Martin Luther King Day)
Anyways back to the match, it’s your standard tag match with both teams getting close calls with RVD hitting the 5 Star Frog Splash on Matt Hardy for the victory
Winners and the first two entrants into the mini rumble tonight: RVD & Booker T
Before the commercial, JR and the King mention that the Goldberg vs. Scott Steiner is now a triple threat including Test. This match is also an Advancement match for the mini rumble later tonight
Commercial
We are back and oh crap, here comes the Coach. He dances his way to the announce booth and joins the booth for the rest of the show.
Out comes Y2J and we have our next match
Y2J Chris Jericho vs. Rene Dupree
This match is also an advancement match. In fact, all of the matches tonight are advancement matches (should be a good match)
This looks like a squash match for Y2J. Y2J is in total control of the match Now Dancing Dupree is in control after reversing an Irish whip and hitting a dropkick. Back and forth action with dancing Dupree, doing his stupid dance, and Y2J doing his own version. Good reversals here by both wrestlers, close calls as well. Match ends with the Walls of Jericho
Winner: Y2J Chris Jericho
The same hardcore legend commercial paid for by friends of Randy Orton is played. I have said it before and I will say it again, Randy Orton is going to be the face of Raw.
Commercial
We come back and Christian is congratulating Y2J on his victory. He wants Y2J to use his survivor series favour to have Christian replace Y2J in the mini rumble. Y2J refuses and Christians says he understands (Right………..)
We cut back to Coach, King and Y2J and they hype the HHH HBK match for the royal rumble. A video package is played highlighting the past and the present with this feud.
Commercial
A promo showing the three people that are in the mini rumble tonight
Here comes Mark Henry which leads to
Mark Henry w/ Theodore Long vs. Rico w/Miss Jackie
Rico hitting some homosexual spots to start (kissing Theodore Long’s bald head, and riding Mark Henry like a pony) Mark Henry takes control and use a flurry of power moves and wins with the World’s Strongest Slam
Winner: Mark Henry w/ Theodore Long
We go to the Evolution locker room as Ric Flair is pumping Randy Orton for his match tonight (They didn’t say who he is fighting) Flair pep talk about the Royal Rumble
- HHH vs. HBK
- Flair & Batista vs. Dudley’s
- Randy Orton in the Royal Rumble
Orton then talks about WM 6 when the WWF Champ (Hogan) fought the IC Champ (Warrior) in the Main Event. (Wishful thinking………maybe) Flair does some more pep talking as we go to break
Commercial
Kane is coming down to ringside and now his opponent coming down to ……..Spike Dudley. Basic Kane squash with the referee having to use the full 5 count ever time Kane went to choke Spike or put him in the corner. When Kane choked Spike in the corner, the referee used the full 5 count on Kane. The ref pulls Kane off of Spike; Spike pushes the ref out of the way, the ref falls down, and DQ’s Kane
Winner: Spike Dudley
Kane go absolutely ape**** afterwards and throws Kane into the steps. If not for 4 refs coming to Spike’s aid, it could have been a lot worse
Commercial
We come back and they show house show highlights from the weekend.
Here comes Scott Steiner and it looks like we have our next match
Scott Steiner vs. Test vs. Goldberg
Test is out next.
Here comes the former WWE and WCW Champion, Goldberg. The bell goes off and we are underway. A beat down by Steiner and Test to start the match, but now Goldberg is in control. Scott Steiner and Goldberg to start the match with Test on the outside the ring waiting for an advantage to capitalize on. Basic Triple threat wrestling with Steiner and Test not letting each other score the pin fall which allows Goldberg to recuperate and hit the spear and jackhammer on Test for the pin fall victory
Winner: Goldberg
A new commercial is played, which is brought to you by the friends of Randy Orton. The voice of the commercial I believe does the NFL “Frozen Tundra” voiceovers. Anyways, the commercial actually calls Foley and I quote “A scared little bitch”
Austin is seen watching a TV with a freeze frame of the commercial; he revs up the ATV and drives down the hall, almost running down Cade and Jindrak in the process
Commercial
We come back to commercial and here comes Austin to the ring. Austin recaps the crowd by calling out Mick Foley, Austin recaps the recent events and tells brief stories about their past as well (old WCW stories) Basically, he orders Foley to show up at the rumble or /* he is going to be breaking the law (looks like Foley will be at the Royal Rumble then)
JR and the King promote the mini rumble tonight and say that there is one more spot left (Looks like Randy Orton vs. someone)
Commercial
Molly Holly is taunting Trish, opening the segment by saying “And….that’s why you will never win the woman’s title”. Molly walks away and leaves Trish alone. Christian walks up to Trish and basically he asks if not wanting anything to do with Y2J is what she wants, she says yes but only half heartily. Christian is happy and shows Trish photos on his photo phone. Christian walks away laughing leaving Trish getting angrier at Y2J. The Saga Continues…………
Our next match (and this is not an advancement match)
Lita vs. Jazz
Good back and forth match between these two ladies, these two know how to wrestle. Finish sees Jazz win with a rollup and a handful of tights for the pin fall victory, also give credit to Theodore Long for some outside interference
We cut to a promo by Terri and the Hurricane backstage. It looks like it will be the Hurricane vs. Randy Orton in the last advancement match of the night. Hurricane says “I believe” (He needs to believe, because beating Orton is going to be tough)
Commercial
We come back and we have our match
Hurricane vs. Randy Orton
Hurricane get going in the early going, Orton gets control until Hurricane hits a nice reversal. Hurricane almost wins but Orton will not be denied. Orton hits the RKO for the victory
Winner: Randy Orton
Post match sees the following
- Rosey runs down to check on Hurricane and is jumped by Evolution
- Dudley’s jump evolution and is about to 3D flair through a table
- Coach runs down with a mic and verbally stopped the Dudley’s
- 3D by the Dudley’s coach through a table
Y2J / Henry segment where Henry basically saying he wants his “stank” all over Y2J’s GF Trish
