Notes on the releases of Matt Hardy & Rhyno; when they are free, more
On Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 6:40 PM EST - Following the releases of Matt Hardy and Rhyno from World Wrestling Entertainment this past weekend, both will be paid for the next 90 days by the company and won't be available for any other pro wrestling promotion until July 10th, 2005. The releases of both has already started rumors of them possibly coming to work for TNA.
Although no talks have reportedly taken place as far as we know, both would be available to work for TNA by then if the company was interested in bringing them in. At this time, no TNA PPV event has been confirmed for July as of yet as the only three confirmed so far are Lockdown (April 24), Hard Justice (May 15) and Slammiversary (June 19). Generally, TNA likes to keep big surprises or debuts for PPV events.
It should also be noted that both would still be able to use their ring names in some capacity. WWE does not own any trademarks on the Matt Hardy name as it is his true birth name (the same applies for his brother Jeff Hardy who has been in TNA since June of 2004). Also, WWE does own the name "Rhyno", but for those who remember Terry Gerin went under the same name in ECW except it was spelled "Rhino."
Seeing as July 10th does fall on a Sunday, it is very possible that TNA could announce their PPV for that date and debut some very high profile former WWE stars if deals are made.
