Kurt Angle thinking of retiring after Wrestlemaina 19 match vs. Lesnar?
» On Thursday, March 13, 2003 at 2:27 PM EST - It has been well documented as of late that Kurt Angle has decided to delay getting neck fusion surgery until after WrestleMania. By doing this he is taking a chance with his health as he risks paralysis by wrestling again rather than getting surgery immediately, as he had originally planned.
However, there is news going around that word among wrestlers for the past couple of days, is that Angle may not wrestle even one more match after his WrestleMania bout.
Angle will eventually need to have more surgery to have more vertebrae fused. Once more than two vertebrae are fused, he won't be able to wrestle again. There is a possibility that he will require more than two vertebrae to be fused sooner than later. The best he could do would be to delay getting the second fusion surgery for five, or even ten years if he wanted to continue wrestling. However, it is also possible he will need to have the second surgery before he is able to wrestle another match, but this surgery would end his wrestling career.
People close to Angle say that his motivations for wrestling at WrestleMania 19 rather than getting surgery right away is that Angle is well aware that there is a good chance he will not be able to wrestle again after the first surgery, and he would rather have his possible final match on the biggest WWE event, WrestleMania.
