- It was brought up at the announcement of Kurt Angle's neck injury that WWE could hold off Angle's upcoming surgery, use him for WrestleMania 19 against Brock Lesnar and then let him drop the belt and get surgery following the match. Those plans looked to be scrapped but last night at the SmackDown tapings in Pittsburgh, PA, the WWE decided to take it in that direction.

Kurt Angle defeated Brock Lesnar last night to retain the WWE Championship in Pittsburgh after Kurt's brother Eric Angle, who was dressed up like Kurt, made a switch in the ring while Brock Lesnar was entering. This allowed Kurt Angle to hide under the ring, let Lesnar beat up on brother Eric and take advantage of a confused Lesnar which is what happened following interference from Team Angle, leading to Kurt Angle rolling up Lesnar for the win.

Rumors this past week pointed to Chris Benoit taking Kurt Angle's spot at WrestleMania to face Brock but those plans have halted and the match between Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship will now take place on March 30th. Chris Benoit will now be booked in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match pitting Benoit/Rhyno vs. Los Guerreros vs. current WWE Tag Team Champions Team Angle (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas).

For those wondering, plans for the Angle/Lesnar match at SmackDown last night were a lot different earlier but were changed at last minute when Kurt Angle decided to go through with his match at WrestleMania after all.
