Misterio/Myzteziz To Headline TripleMania
After months of speculation at what will headline this years TripleMania AAA shocked everyone by announcing this week that the biggest show of the year for AAA will be headlined by the first ever matchup between Rey Misterio Jr. and Myzteziz! This will be Rey’s first singles match in AAA since returning and it is a big surprise that AAA is going with this match for TripleMania. They had been teasing at Myzteziz/Averno and Rey/Johnny Mundo for the show up until now. The WWE had planned for some time to eventually do a big match between the two but never got to it and now AAA gets to pull the trigger on it. Rey and Myzteziz have teamed together numerous times in both WWE and AAA. It is unclear if Myzteziz will turn rudo or if they will just do a tecnico vs. tecnico match (which is more likely). AAA also announced that Alberto el Patron vs. Brian Cage in a Hair vs. Hair Match would be the Semi Main Event for TripleMania making the show already a stacked one.
Flamita Debuts for AAA
This weekend young rising luchador Flamita finally made his debut with AAA after almost a year of rumors of him possibly signing with the promotion. He appeared at AAA’s TV Taping on Friday night working in a tag team with Ludxor under the name “Fireball.” The name change is weird as hell and really makes no sense especially since Flamita has already made a name for himself in Japan as a part of Dragon Gate and then this past year in Mexico as one of the best Independent luchadors in the country. Recently there were a lot of rumors of Flamita possibly signing with CMLL after he defeating Volador Jr. at an Indy event.
Angelico Documentary
This week Angelico released a trailer for an upcoming documentary about he and several other luchadors documenting their careers as they attempted to make it Lucha Libre. To watch the video check it out here:
Evans & Angelico in PWG
AAA/Lucha Underground stars Jack Evans and Angelico will face The Young Bucks for the PWG Tag Team Titles at the PWG “Threemendous IV” event in Reseda, CA on 07/24. This will be Jack Evans first appearance in PWG in years while it will be Angelico’s debut for the promotion. Both will return again in August for PWG’s annual “Battle of LA Tournament” along with fellow AAA/Lucha Underground stars Brian Cage, Ricochet/Prince Puma, Pentagon Jr., Fenix, Drago, and Aerostar.
TripleMania Finally Gets Date
This week AAA finally announced that of the annual “TripleMania” event as it will take place on August 9th from Arena Ciudad de Mexico. It will likely be on iPPV but no announcement has been made yet.
Rey Misterio Jr. & Alberto Coming to New York
This week it was announced that AAA stars Rey Misterio Jr. and Alberto del Rio will taking on the high flying Young Bucks on the 08/01 NEW event in Wappingers Falls, New York.
Prince Puma Appears in New Japan
After returning to Dragon Gate last week Lucha Underground’s Prince Puma (Ricochet) also returned to New Japan this week challenging the winner of the upcoming KUSHIDA/Kenny Omega IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title match to defend against him.This does not bode well for the standing of Lucha Underground right now, especially considering NJPW has a TV deal with AXS TV in America.
