AAA
More Lucha Underground Signings
Wrestling Observer reported this past weekend that AAA’s Jack Evans will be coming to Lucha Underground in the coming months and that Shane Strickland, Jeff Cobb, and Martin Causus have signed contracts with the promotion. Willie Mack has also been offered a deal but has yet to sign. Strickland has worked for Ring of Honor many times while Cobb is a former Olympic wrestler and Martin was a former WWE Tough Enough contestant.
Vince Russo/Lucha Underground Rumors
The Wrestling Observer and Dave Meltzer have claimed that former WWE/WCW/TNA writer Vince Russo is either in talks with Lucha Underground or will be interviewing with them for a job in the promotion. Lucha Underground’s Executive Producer Eric Van Wagenen has said flat out that they are not interviewing Russo and have had no conversation with him. The fan reaction to the rumors have been unbelievably negative, as you would expect. Russo also publicy denied them. Russo was a great part in the death of WCW and tried pretty hard to kill another promotion (TNA) as well (all my opinion) so I guess he wants to go for the trifecta of crappy wrestling writing. If you have read any of his “Russo Books Raw” columns in the last few months then you know he still hasn’t changed.
Flamita to AAA Rumors Persist
Rumors have been ongoing for months that AAA is hard at work on trying to convince Flamita to join the promotion. Flamita for the last year plus has been a top star for Dragon Gate in Japan and has really begun to make a name for himself as one of the top high flyers in the world, much like Ricochet/Prince Puma did a couple of years ago in Dragon Gate. Flamita previously had been a mainstay on the independents in Mexico but has worked for AAA a few times in the past. AAA wants Flamita to come to AAA full time, and likely work for Lucha Underground as well, while Dragon Gate wants him to work full time for them. Flamita has enjoyed working for Dragon Gate and has been pushed like a big deal there. The Wrestling Observer claims that AAA is close to signing him but I’m not so sure about all that. If they do end up signing him he will probably end up splitting his time between AAA/Lucha Underground and Dragon Gate.
TNA/AAA Relationship To Start Up Again?
This week the Wrestling Observer reported that TNA’s Bob Ryder has recently been in contact with AAA trying to reestablish their relationship in hopes of a talent exchange. TNA is reportedly interesting in bringing in a couple of Hispanic wrestlers to push. They currently have former AAA Cruiserweight Champion Tigre Uno on the roster and have done NOTHING with him so I don’t know what they plan to do with anyone else. Regardless it could be interesting to see if AAA would be willing to do this considering the Lucha Underground situation. Then again it could lead for some interesting cross promotional angles the two companies could do. Alberto del Rio, Myzteziz, Johnny Mundo, Fenix, etc. showing up on Impact and Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Bobby Lashley, Austin Aries, etc. showing up on Lucha Underground could be good for both promotions.

2) Johnny Mundo def. Angelico
3) Best of Five Series Match #4: Drago def. Aerostar
4) Lucha Underground Trios Titles Tournament Quarterfinals: Big Ryck, Kill Shot, & The Mack def. Pentagon Jr., Sexy Star, & Super Fly
5) Lucha Underground Trios Titles Tournament Quarterfinals: Angelico, Ivelisse, & Son of Havoc def. Aerostar, Drago, & Fenix
6) Mask vs. Mask Match: Sexy Star def. Super Fly
7) Lucha Underground World Title: Prince Puma (c) def. King Cuerno to retain the title!
* NOTES *
– Mundo/Angelico was said to be very good.
– The Mack is Willie Mack and Kill Shot is Shane Strickland under a mask. Pentagon’s team had all kinds of problems leading to their loss. Pentagon attacked Super Fly after the match but Sexy Star saved him. Pentagon promised to break both of their arms. Dario Cuerto had made Pentagon’s team a “wild card” team that he put together to win the new titles.
– Aerostar and Drago, who are feuding, had all kinds of problems in their match and ended up costing their team the match. Still said to be very good.
– Dario was pissed off at Pentagon’s team losing in the tournament and as punishment he made Sexy Star and Super Fly face each other in a Mask vs. Mask Match as he blamed them for the loss. Sexy won clean and then after Super Fly unmasked Pentagon ran out and knocked Sexy Star off the apron and then broke Fly’s arm. Super Fly may be getting repackaged.
– Hernandez and Mundo were in Prince Puma’s corner in the Main Event and King Cuerno had Texano Jr. and Cage with him. Those two trios would be involved in the Trios Tournament as well. Lots of interference and Puma got pissed at Hernandez for getting involved.
Lucha Underground 02/08 TV Taping Los Angeles, CA Results
1) Lucha Underground Trios Title Tournament Quarterfinals: Cage, Texano Jr., & King Cuerno def. Hernandez, Johnny Mundo, & Prince Puma
2) Triple Threat: Cage def. Son of Havoc & The Mack
3) Best of Five Series Finale: Drago def. Aerostar
4) Mixed Match: Sexy Star def. Pentagon Jr.
5) Lucha Underground Trios Titles Tournament Semifinals Triple Threat: Angelico, Ivelisse Velez, & Son of Havoc def. Big Ryck, Kill Shot, & The Mack and Cage, Texano Jr., & King Cuerno
6) Lucha Underground Trios Titles Tournament Finals: Angelico, Ivelisse Velez, & Son of Havoc def. The Crew (Bael, Cortez Castro, & Mr. Cisco) to win the titles!
* NOTES *
– Shawn Davari sat at ringside for the opener.
– After the triple threat Pentagon Jr. came out and whispered something to the ring announcer. The ring announcer, Melissa Santos, announced that Pentagon has dedicated his next victim to his unknown mentor. Pentagon then shockingly attacked her and was about to break her arm when Sexy Star ran out for the save.
– The end of Aerostar and Drago’s Best of 5 Series was said to have been great as expected and the two hugged after it. Dario came out and congratulated Drago, and said that he has earned himself a shot at the Lucha Underground World Title. The catch is that if he losses that match then he is “banished from the temple” and will never be allowed back again.
– Pentagon was more worried about breaking Sexy Star’s arm in their match than winning which ended up costing him in the end.
– The Trios 3-Way was said to have been a crazy, wild match. A bunch of dives ended up causing Texano to crash into Davari at ringside. Davari got pissed and attacked Texano leading to the finish.
– Angelico’s team thought that was the end of the tournament but Dario came out and said they still had to face one more team and then introduced The Crew. The two teams had a wild brawl with the dysfunctional team of Ivelisse, Angelico, and Havoc win.

– Lots of screwy stuff in the Main Event, as you would expect with anything featuring Park and Wagner at this point, with Sombra sneaking in a foul on Park for the win.
