Mike Tedesco’s WWE Survivor Series Predictions

It’s here. It’s finally here. It’s a moment we as fans of this genre have been waiting for forever. Finally, at long last, after 100+ years of wrestling, we are finally going to see “the biggest main event of all time”! Can you feel the sarcasm permeating from that text? Maybe it’s not the biggest main event of all time, but it’s definitely one to watch.
I don’t think there has been a good edition of Survivor Series since maybe 2002. I honestly can’t remember anything notable about the event other than that first Elimination Chamber match from Madison Square Garden. Maybe you could say when The Rock returned, but I don’t remember much more about that event. With the free month of WWE Network giving this event away for free, they’ve tried to really build up this card properly to get as many people to sign up as possible. How properly they’ve built it up is subject to debate, but I think this will be one of the most watched events of the year just because of the price tag: zero dollars. Now they just have to execute a good show. There is no WWE Title match nor is there a strong under-card. It’s the main event or bust. Depending on how they book it, this could very well turn out to be one of the more memorable Survivor Series events of the last few years.
This column was finalized on Saturday night, so if any other matches are added Sunday, I apologize for not having them in here. Now onto the predictions!
WWE Tag Team Championships
The Miz & Damien Mizdow vs. Los Matadores vs. The Usos vs. Gold & Stardust (c’s)
This should be a really fun match that I predict will open up the show. The Miz and Damien Mizdow are obviously the best tag team going right now. The crowd absolutely loves Mizdow. I love that spot where Mizdow tags in, does absolutely nothing but get a pop, and then Miz takes the wind out of the crowd’s sails and tags himself back in. I love those reactions. Obviously they’ve got something hot with Miz and Mizdow. It won’t last, so I say give them the championships and ride the gimmick into the ground. It won’t last forever so capitalize on it now.
Prediction: The Miz and Damien Mizdow
WWE Divas Championship
Nikki Bella vs. AJ Lee (c)
I am not looking forward to this match whatsoever. The whole “Bella Butler” thing has been atrocious. They haven’t done one interesting segment with these two since Brie became her servant almost a month ago. The angle between the two sisters has been brutal, chock full of horrible promos and acting. They had the opportunity here to at least bring some comedy, but they chose not to do that. The only thing we got was Nikki pouring a smoothie on Brie at Hell in a Cell. Since then they haven’t done anything. Nikki hasn’t even benefitted from having Brie as a servant. She hasn’t even embarrassed her that much. Stephanie McMahon did more damage to Brie than Nikki has. Just awful. Then you have AJ Lee who acts like she’s a big deal even though she hasn’t done anything of note since the night she came back from her honeymoon. The whole thing is just a whole lot of bad. I guess Nikki will finally benefit from having Brie, and they’ll feud for the title at the next PPV. Honestly, I couldn’t care less.
Prediction: Nikki Bella
Divas Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match
Natalya, Alicia Fox, Naomi & Emma vs. Paige, Cameron, Summer Rae & Layla
I called this match last month, but I figured it would be Team AJ vs. Team Paige. Luckily for everyone who watches the program that feud finally seems to be over, at least for now. It’s matches like this that can really kill a good predictions record. No one cares about the match, even the writing staff that put it together. It could literally go either way. About the only prediction I can make is if this is anything like it was last year where divas were getting eliminated by dropkicks and drop-toe-holds, this will be one of, if not THE, worst match of the year.
Prediction: Paige, Cameron, Summer Rae & Layla
Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt
I’m really hoping that this match is going to be awesome because the storyline for it has been anything but. I really don’t like hokey back-story being injected into television that are so blatantly fake. It’s so brutal that the performers can’t even realistically get it over. They don’t believe it in it, and it shows. What should have been happening with this storyline is Ambrose should have been on a warpath against Wyatt for ruining the moment he had been fighting for since the beginning of June when Seth Rollins broke up The Shield. Instead it’s all about this fake, dumbass story about Ambrose’s father in prison and his rough childhood. I’m not saying they should have used my idea, but that’s the one that makes the most damn sense. As I’ve said before in my columns, this is yet another missed opportunity by WWE.
Well like I said, I’m hoping they have a good match to make us forget about this crap storyline. I was hoping after Hell in a Cell that this would take these two to another level, but the crowd reaction for both men has been flat. I truly believe that one good match will offset that. I’d hate to see either guy lose since they both really need wins.
Prediction: Bray Wyatt
Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match
If Team Authority loses, The Authority will be removed from power
If Team Cena loses, they will be fired from WWE
Team Cena vs. Team Authority
Team Cena: John Cena, Ryback, Erick Rowan, Dolph Ziggler, and Big Show
Team Authority: Seth Rollins, Kane, Mark Henry, Rusev, and Luke Harper
This show is the definition of a “one match show,” and this is the one match I believe everyone is anxious to see. I guess everyone should be anxious to see it since they promoted it on RAW as “the biggest main event of all time.” This looks to be the culmination of The Authority angle, though I suspect even if they lose, they won’t be off television for a long while. The build for this match was pretty good for the first few weeks, but it really fell off the tracks this week. The stupidity of Cena’s team being destroyed and even though he’s in the building, he didn’t run down to help them really hurt. It was never explained that he couldn’t come out, and they went out of their way to show he was in the building, so it really hurt the angle a bit.
Still, even after RAW, I was really looking forward to seeing this because there was still some uncertainty. Now with the added stipulation on Smackdown (why they would announce this stipulation on Smackdown is beyond me) that if Team Cena loses, they’ll all be fired, it leaves no doubt in my mind what team will win. They really didn’t need this stipulation at all. At least announce it on RAW when everyone was watching. Firing storylines are quite often horrible because the person (or persons in this case) still appear on television every week and work house shows. Their booking is already shoddy at this point. Let’s not make it worse. Expect this one to go long and be good. Oh, and I predict Sting will make an appearance. It just makes sense for the WWE Network.
Prediction: Team Cena
I got in trouble with Hell in a Cell last month because in some cases I was predicting with my heart and not my brain. I wanted Dean Ambrose to win just because I thought he needed it more, and I wanted Randy Orton to win because I wanted to see him face Brock Lesnar in a big match. Things appear to be trending in a better direction at the moment now. In the end, at Hell in a Cell, I went 5-3 in my predictions. This is my record since I started doing these columns back at Money in the Bank.
